If you live in the EU or the UK and you’re thinking of buying a multi-core CPU from AMD, you’ll likely be wuite happy with this news.
In the bid to encourage the uptake of multi-core (and, no doubt to make its product offerings more appealing), AMD are offering cashback based upon the amount of core CPU you buy, until the 31st of August this year at least.
For those of us (such as myself) in the United Kingdom, a quad-core CPU will allow you to claw back £10 from AMD, £15 for a six-core, and £20 for an eight-core beast. Apparently, the EU will give you the exact same amount in euros, so 10 euro’s for the quad core for example – slightly less than UK residents will get.
Like most things tech, not everything is equal though and in some cases, some of the chips don’t qualify for cash back. The FX line of AMD’s chips, the FX-8120 and FX-8150 allow you £20 back. FX-6100 and FX-6200 £15, and the FX-4100 and the FX-4700 offer £10 back. Two APU’s also are eligible, the A8-3870K and A8-3670K.
There is also a long terms and conditions which apply, including up to two rebates per customer, the final claim also must be put in by the 18th of September, 2012. Good news though, if you’ve purchased your CPU on or after the 1tth of June, 2012, you’ll also qualify.
