Sony have unveiled we’ll be seeing an exclusive piece of content for the Playstation 4 version of Batman Arkham Knight. The content will feature Scarecrow as Gotham becomes a victim of his fear toxin and turns the city into a living nightmare. If you’ve played previous Batman Arkham titles, you might recall Scarecrow was absent in Akham City, but now he’s back – but only for the PS4 it would seem.
“Gotham falls victim to Scarecrow’s fear toxin, transforming the famous city into a twisted, hellish nightmare in the Batman: Arkham Knight Scarecrow Nightmare Pack,” says PlayStation.com. “Tear through the city in the all-new batmobile and face off against a towering vision of Scarecrow and his undead army as they spread terror on the streets, available exclusively on PlayStation 4.”
For those of you who were watching the E3 demo of Batman Arkham Knight, you might recall catching a short glimpse of Scarecrow.
“How many bones will you crush? How many lives will you destroy in pursuit of what you call justice?” Scarecrow growled. “You are the product of everything you fear – violence, darkness, helplessness. All that remains is for you to watch while I drag your beloved Gotham into oblivion.”
So there’s a number of questions raised – how much extra content does the Playstation 4 version get in terms of pure hours, and how big a part does Scarecrow play in the ‘normal’ game. So in other words, how much (if at all) will we be seeing him in the Xbox and PC iterations of the title.
I’ve got to say that from a personal point of view, I don’t like the idea of such nice platform exclusive content. Despite my owning a PS4, I’d prefer to game on the PC. Besides this, not everyone has access to a PS4, and platform exclusives do nothing other than punish those without access to both consoles. Unfortunately, exclusive content (for either platform) isn’t going anywhere, leaving players with access to only one machine often getting the short end of the stick.
Worthy of note however, is this isn’t the first time we’ve seen exclusive content for Batman, with the Joker playable in the Ps3 version of Batman Arkham Asylum for instance.
