The DayZ mod for ArmA II: Combined Operations has been insanely successful, so I doubt that it will come as a surprise to anyone that the mod is now becoming it’s very own game.
The creator Dean Hall announced this officially earlier today, via DayZ’s blog. What is really interesting though, is that ArmA developer Bohemia Interactive will actually be partnering with Hall in the creation of the game. Hall will apparently be the project lead, on what is billed to be a much more ambitious take of the original DayZ mod.
“This is the fairy-tale outcome for a mod that many would have said impossible four months ago,” said Hall.
If you’re worried for the original mod though, don’t. Hall has specifically said that development will still continue for the mod, although he did address that some questions will need to be answered in the coming weeks as to how this splintering will impact the different projects.
Still, it’s great to see this happening, and it will actually give me a chance to play DayZ! In all seriousness, Hall should be absolutely chuffed, and it will be great to see DayZ reach it’s full potential where the developers don’t have to worry about working within the constraints of an already finished product.
