It has been revealed that DC Universe Online will be sharing it’s servers across the versions for PS3 and PS4, meaning that gamers will be getting cross platform play.
This news was confirmed by DC Universe Online senior creative director Jens Andersen in a recent Q&A, who happily said that Playstation 3 and 4 users can play together on this particular title.
Anderson wrote;
“We wanted to make sure that the release of DCUO on PS4 was not a homewrecker. We know there are lots of people from lots of different walks of life that find themselves in the same league, and enjoy playing with one another in game,”
“We realized some people would be early adopters of the new platform, and others would wait to buy one. We felt it was very important to maintain cohesion within the community, so we decided to let them play on the same servers.”
The studio behind the PS4 version is aiming for 1080p and 60 fps for when the game comes out on the PS4 launch date.
The only question in my mind is: why aren’t more multi gen games doing something similar? Is it simply an issue of too many users per server? It would be a nice feature to see in the future for AAA games, though. Fingers crossed.
