Blizzard recently announced that their free starter edition for Diablo 3 is now open to everyone, as you can now play for free.
To start, simply install the game using a game disc or download available in your Battle.net account (or make an account, it’s free) and then log in with your Battle.net details. You are allowed to play act I up to the Skeleton King and advance up to level 13 without buying the game, same as usual. Any progress you make will carry over if you buy the game after that.
All I’m thinking is FINALLY. Every article I’ve ever seen about this thing is spammed with people asking for guest passes. Fine, Blizzard doesn’t want their game flooded with people from the start, but the half-assed attempt was annoying. Apart from the obvious rage on my end though, the starter edition is a good way to get a feel for the game. If you don’t like it by the time Act I is over, chances are you won’t be thrilled with endgame either. It should be noted however that the Auction House is not available, so if you’re all into the idea of making real money with the game, you’ll have to buy the whole package.
