RedCoon, a German retailer, has listed Diablo 3 for release on PS3. The website has also attached a 2012 release date the console release, which is yet to be officially confirmed by Blizzard. There is no listing for Xbox 360, but it does say that the supposed PS3 release will “benefit from Battle.net upgrades that will provide some exciting new features for the player”.
The senior world designer, Leonard Boyarski, mentioned just before the PC release of the title that Blizzard was “continuing to explore” the possibility of a multiplatform release, but did not officially confirm any console release plans.
Paul Sams, Blizzard’s COO, said essentially the same thing in a recent interview with the guys over at CVG. When asked if they would consider a console release, he said “We think that the way we built it for the PC may need some tweaking, but it will ultimately be the type of game that can really make sense and be really fun, well polished and a true Blizzard-level experience on a console.”
It seems like it’s only a matter of time before the release is officially confirmed by someone over at Blizzard, but will it be multiplatform, or have Sony snagged one hell of an exclusivity deal? I find it a little hard to believe that Blizzard would choose to ignore the 360 (simply because of the amount of copies they would sell if they went multiplatform) but it is technically possible that the PS3 alone will be seeing Diablo 3 come to it’s shores.
