Justin Bailey, who was COO of Double Fine, has launched a new crowdfunding platform where investors can actually see a return from their investment.
The new platform goes by the name Fig, and is currently awaiting approval from the SEC to open up investment crowdfunding to everyone. Until then, it is limited to accredited investors only.
Fig’s advisory board features some pretty big names, including Tim Schafer, Feargus Uruqhart and Brian Fargo, who are all planning to use the service for their respective companies. These are Double Fine, Obsidian and inXile respectively.
Justin, who is now CEO of Fig, had this to say: “Games are one of the leading sectors in rewards-based crowdfunding and continue to evolve the whole medium; Fig’s approach is to customize our platform to what works best for games. This includes supporting investment crowdfunding where the fans have the opportunity to participate in the financial success of the games they help make possible.”
The first game to be on the service will be Outer Wilds, a space exploration game which is described by developer Mobius Digital as “Majora’s Mask meets Apollo 13.”
