Kingdom Hearts is officially fourteen years old (yes, I feel old now too) and Tetsuya Nomura has debuted a new screenshot of the upcoming game, Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue.
In honour of the series’ fourteen birthday, Nomura debuted a new screenshot from the upcoming KH 2.8, which fills the last gap between Kingdom Hearts 2 and 3.
As you know, Kingdom Hearts 2.8 is a collection of games, and one of them is Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover, which is in itself a collection of revamped cinematics from Kingdom Hearts χ.
KH誕生から今日で14年との事。ソラが旅立った年齢になりましたね。長く支えて下さっている皆さんのおかげです。ありがとうございます。KHⅡ.8から開発中の夜明けの街をお届けします。今後もよろしくお願いします。

The rather lovely looking location above is Daybreak Town, one of the locations from Kingdom Hearts χ that’s getting a HD coat of paint in Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover. The original game itself is only available in Japan at the moment on iOS and Android, but a Western release is planned at some point. Hopefully before 2.8 comes out, or there will be bunch of confused Westerners seeing the cutscenes without ever having played the game.
Interestingly, the cutscenes for Back Cover are being recreated in the brand new engine being used for Kingdom Hearts 3, which is why it looks so damn nice. There is yet to be a release date announced for 2.8, but we do know it will include remake of Dream Drop Distance and the new “episode” Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth By Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage.
