Last year, we saw a rather tasty looking snippet of the upcoming Spiderman game from Insomniac, which was just enough to get tongues wagging and imaginations working.
Very little is known about this project, in fact, at the time of writing, it still doesn’t even have an official title that is known by the public. However, a sharp-eyed Reddit user was watching a livestream where the upcoming game was mentioned, which may have given us a release window for the game.
During the stream, Ryan Penagos, vice president and executive editor of Marvel Digital Media took the stage and seemingly confirmed that the Insomniac Spiderman title would be hitting your PS4 sometime this year alongside some other Marvel titles.
He said: “There’s even more on the horizon for 2017. Like Spider-Man coming to PlayStation 4 and Marvel vs Capcom: Infinite, coming to Xbox One, PS4 and Windows PC.”
Sadly, he did not get more specific than that, however, it does seem that the game will not be tied to the upcoming film, Spiderman Homecoming. This is undoubtedly a good thing, regardless of when the game is coming out. When games are rushed to meet the release date of films, it generally does not turn out well, and the best tie-in games are ones that were given room to breathe.
What’s interesting though, is that despite this statement from a high up Marvel executive, Insomniac Games said on Twitter that there is no estimated time frame for the game’s release date.

So, what can we take from this? Well, really there are two options here – either Ryzen Penagos told us the release window too early, or he was incorrect. I guess, the truth will remains to be seen… for now.
