I only recently discussed the allegedly leaked photos of the Nintendo NX controller, and how an unnamed source from Nintendo had said they weren’t the real deal.
But now, we have confirmation, that thankfully both of the “leaked” photos of the NX controller were fakes made by two different people. In case you somehow missed these leaks, check out this article for some screenshots and this video for the comments from the Nintendo of America source.
Now, you may remember that there was a photo leaked before the ones leaked above, which actually ended up leading credence to the more recent pictures. These were originally posted on Reddit and the creator of the images, Idriss2Dev, has revealed they are a hoax and has even shown us how he did it.
All I can say is: well played, sir. You had a lot of people pretty fooled, especially since the design matched pretty closely to some leaked patents for a handheld device of some type from Nintendo. However, the real whammy came with the second more recent set of leaks. This image looked even more convincing than the first, and there’s actually a reason why: the controller shown is actually a 3D printed model.
The second fake was made by someone else, one Frank Sandqvist, and he went to quite a lot of trouble to make this controller look as convincing as possible. As I mentioned earlier, the fact that this matched with the earlier leaked image from before made us all go into a frenzy.
You can see how Frank pulled this off in the video below.
Congrats, gents! Take this an early April Fools, and a very well executed one. GG to you!
Now while it is important to remember that some parts of the patent I mentioned previously may end up in the final Nintendo NX controller, we are safe in the knowledge that the leaks we have all been freaking out over are nothing more than a very convincing hoax.
