Well, MineCon is on at the moment, and Telltale Games took to the stage to finally reveal Minecraft Story Mode.
We knew they were working on this, but what we didn’t know is how they were going to approach it, would it be in their signature style, or anything really.
But now we know. It will be featuring their usual story driven, point and click-ish style gameplay (no shocker there), but the trailer actually features a fair bit of combat. I do wonder how exactly that will work. Unfortunately, the trailer doesn’t actually show real gameplay, so it may be a while before we get the answer to this.
What we do know is, Minecraft Story Mode will be a episodic game split up into five episodes, and will feature the main character Jesse and his group of friends. The official blurb for the story reads as such: “Players will control protagonist Jesse throughout the season, as portrayed by actor Patton Oswalt. Jesse and his group of friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone; four adventurers who slayed an Ender Dragon. The Order are the very best at what they do: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect. While at EnderCon, Jesse and his friends discover that something is wrong… something dreadful. Terror is unleashed, and they must set out on a journey to find The Order of the Stone if they are to save their world from oblivion.”
So, it will be featuring various terrains, and with any luck the core crafting mechanics from Minecraft will carry over in some form, so you still have to hunt for new weapons, armour and so forth through the search of area specific ore.
The whole concept is still very much shrouded in mystery, and I am intruiged, if only to see how on earth Telltale are going to carry Minecraft (a game that has no story outside of Adventure modes and custom maps) into such a story driven experience. But, enough of my blathering, check out the trailer below, then let us know what you think on Twitter and Facebook.
