Mortal Kombat X is almost upon us, and it seems like some of the better ideas to come out of MOBA games and free to play fighting games like Killer Instinct will be making an appearance in the game.
Youtuber Angry Joe recently conducted an interview with Ed Boon, and it’s here that this particular nugget of information came up. You can watch the interview below.
However, if you don’t want to slog through a twenty minute interview, basically they will be offering some DLC characters for free at all times, keeping them in a constant rotation. So, basically like how League of Legends and other MOBA’s do things, which of course will also implemented rather well into Killer Instinct’s free to play model. However, there is one caveat with Mortal Kombat X’s free rotation of characters.
That is, they won’t be usable on ranked play. So, if you want to actually gain ladder points and other such things, you need to purchase the DLC for that character. So you can still use them in any other mode, such as Arcade, Co-Op VS or what have you, and also unranked online play, but not in ranked.
Seems more than fair to me! It seems like a pretty good way of doing things, and it’s nice to see some alternative methods being offered to people who perhaps don’t want to buy DLC for one or two characters after dropping $60 on the game.
