According to a rather large amount of speculation that has been building up lately, Microsoft will soon be launching the “Xbox Live Companion” a mobile and tablet based app that will play “additional content” in tandem with a game running on the Xbox 360.
It is currently believed that the devices will sync with the console using a WiFi connection.
Kotaku has said that the Companion will, in fact, be available to all Xbox Live users, but that anyone with a Gold subscription will have access to “enhanced features”.
These rumours have yet to be confirmed by anyone from Microsoft, but I will be very surprised if this is not confirmed very soon, most likely at E3. What may also be revealed is a streaming feature to tablets using the Companion that will function in a similar way to the OnLive service.
