It has recently come to light that a new model of the PS3 could be on it’s way, but no news if it will be for 2012 or 2013. This news was outed by Sony filing new plans to the FCC, which is an independent agency in the US that deals with regulating communications via radio, television, wire, satellite and cable.
This was recently spotted by NeoGAF users and seems to show a sample of a “Computer Entertainment System” model number CECH-4001x, which is an upgrade from the current 3000 series.
The slimline PS3, which would be both more energy efficient and also cheaper, was announced at Gamescom way back in 2009, and there have been some rumours going around that claim that Sony will be releasing the new model of the PS3 in order to take advantage of late adopters.
Sony Worldwide Studios boss, Shuhei Yoshida, when asked about the possibility of another hardware revision for the PS3, didn’t rule out the possibility.
“We haven’t announced anything new on PS3 in terms of hardware revisions. We should never say never – hardware guys are always looking at ways to make things cheaper, smaller.”
