This newly announced title started out life as planned DLC for Saint’s Row The Third, but it now being released as a full game, supposedly in 2013.Volition, the developers of the latest Saint’s Row title, had been working on a DLC content release for the game which was to be called “Enter the Dominatrix”, but now the code that has already been written for said DLC is now being incorporated into a full blown title. The planned game looks to be a full installment of the series, as its current name is “The Next Great Sequel in the Saints Row Franchise”. It seems a bit soon to be talking about Saint’s Row Four, but that’s what this is looking like to me.
As mentioned earlier, the new game is set for release next year, most probably in April. Interestingly though, THQ has said that they will probably lose a substantial amount (around $20 million) in sales by not releasing the Dominatrix DLC this year, so they are taking a huge gamble that the new title will do well enough to warrant such a risk.
This very risky shift in decisions seems to be the first huge one for THQ’s new company president Jason Rubin.
“When I looked at the Enter The Dominatrix expansion in production at Volition, I was blown away by the ideas and desire to expand the fiction of the franchise,” he said.
“I asked the team what it could achieve given more time, more resources, and a broader scope for the project. We all agreed we wanted to play that game. When it comes to Saints Row, it’s clear our fans want bigger, better, and even more over the top, and that’s why Enter The Dominatrix will now be incorporated into a vastly expanded, full-fledged sequel, scheduled for calendar 2013.”
“We believe the potential for this sequel is far greater as a full-priced, full-length, high quality, connected experience.”
