The Playstation Vita Slim, known as the PS Vita 2000 is now available to pre-order in the UK. Sony UK’s Product Manager, Ben Law has been unveiled and the older Vita model will be phased out and replaced as its stock runs out.
The PS Vita 2000 was released in Japan last year, 20 percent thinner and 15 percent lighter than the original PS Vita. The OLED screen was replaced with an improved LCD affair. The Vita 2000’s new screen should improve the battery life by an hour, which is crucial for gamer’s on the go. 1GB of built in memory has been included into the system for the purposes of game saves and the handheld can charge via a Micro USB port.
The Playstation Vita has been given a new lease on life recently thanks to the release of its ‘big brother’, the Playstation 4. With the improvements to the screen and a reasonable price point, Sony are clearly hoping to entice new buyers. The current stock however, won’t be dropping in price as the numbers remaining of the old units are very limited.
Sony UK’s Ferga Gara said “if this model wasn’t coming we’d be running out of stock very fast. The timing’s nice in terms of clearing out the old model.”
