Vatra Games, the developers behind the game Silent Hill: Downpour, may be closing it’s doors. This rumor has been circulating for a while due to Eurogamer, but it looks like it’s true.
The rumor has supposedly now been corroborated by local sources, and the studio owner has also issued an officially statement saying that it is currently “conducting a strategic review” of it’s operations.
“The new management team at Kuju have been conducting a strategic review of all aspects of the business,” the firm also said. “As part of this process, the on-going business activities of the Vatra studio are currently under review. However, at this stage, no decisions have yet been made.”
Vatra was supposedly working on a God of War style game which has now been officially canned, which is a real shame. That could have been quite interesting. While Downpour was not a return to Silent Hill 2 greatness by any stretch of the imagination, it was a pretty decent addition to the series and lightyears better than the atrocity that was Silent Hill: Homecoming. I felt like this studio had potential, so if this is true (as it seems to be) then that is a loss for gaming.
