As you may know, wee recently got some news on the Drop Zone mode for Star Wars Battlefront, where you play in a king-of-the-hill style mode with 16 other players. Now, in an update to the official website for the game, DICE have spoken a little bit on how the mode works.
The focus of Drop Zone is drop pods which fall from the sky, and once they have fallen you will be tasked with holding the position where they have landed.
There seem to be two potential win conditions; either the first team to hold five of the pods, or the team which holds the most pods after ten minutes.
According to DICE, Drop Zone is “all about action and quick thinking. We’re promoting the idea of a fast, action-packed game where you need to be mobile and think on your feet. Camping doesn’t really pay off.”
Given that one of the win conditions could potentially end the game after only ten minutes definitely seems like the mode would be fast paced. Players will have to wait for the drop pods to fall, and then once they do – the race is on.
The location of the drop pods will most likely be random each time, so where you could memorise the location of capture points in a more standard king-of-the-hill, the mobile nature of the pods will mean even a seasoned player will have to think on his feet.
