Some time ago, we reported the rumours flying around that Blizzard would be releasing a HD version their classic RTS Starcraft. Despite it not being revealed as expected at Blizzcon last year, it seems the rumour lives on.
According to a report from SportsSeoul, the remaster will be imaginatively titled Starcraft Remastered and it will also be releasing this summer in either May or June. Naturally, the graphics will be heavily reworked from the original, and it will also have an improved Battle.net service. However, for those wondering if perhaps the gameplay will be at all modernised, the answer is no. Sports Seoul also said that we can expect an official announcement as soon as next week.
Since Brood War is still played to this day, a return of the classic RTS would be most welcome, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see an eSports scene pop up for it, given the huge success of the Brood War and Starcraft 2 eSports scenes.
Luckily, we don’t have to wait long to find out how legitimate this rumour is. The main question remains on how much Blizzard will charge for this remaster, but sadly there are not even any whispers of what they are planning there. Fingers crossed for a reveal next week!
