The PS4 beta for Street Fighter 5, which kicks off July 23, will have immediate access to four playable characters.
A couple of days later, on July 25, the SF5 roster will be expanded with the edition of Birdie and Cammy.
According to Capcom, the reason for this two day delay is to test the title’s new content delivery system. As well as this, local versus mode isn’t going to be included as the primary focus of the beta is to test online functionality and matchmaking. Seems fair.
They also detailed exactly how the beta is going to work. Once you launch the game and go past the start screen, you will have to select a character. Make sure you pick carefully though, as you won’t be able to change this before the fight begins.
Once you’re in, you’ll be taken to the training mode to practice for a bit while the game searches for an opponent. Once they have one for you, you’ll be taken back to the VS screen and the match will begin. The stages included in the beta are Bustling Side Street (China), Terminal Station (London) and the new Forgotten Waterfall (New Zealand).
Once the fight is over, you’ll once again be back in the training room waiting for your next fight.
If you’re hoping to use a PS3 fight stick or controller in the beta, that functionality won’t be available because it is being evaluated “for the final product”.
