Superdata, an industry analysis firm, has filed its report on the digital market for the month of October. They have shown a 7% year-on-year increase in spending, hiking it up to $5.5 billion in global spending.
CEO Joost van Dreunen had this to say: “In the lead-up to the holiday season, total digital games sales hit their highest point for the year so far,” CEO Joost van Dreunen wrote. “With the exception of pay-to-play MMOs, all segments managed to grow their revenue.”
Digital console sales in particular saw a high increase in year-on-year revenue of 14%, taking it up to $375 million. You can see Superdata’s full charts below.
You may have see some comments from GameStop this week, who cited the under performance of big titles like Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Halo 5 and Star Wars Battlefront as an explanation for their decrease in profits. The really hilarious part, though, was when president Tony Bartel came up with a bunch of reasons why Halo 5 wasn’t actually selling gangbusters – when really, people had just been going elsewhere or going digital.
