The first details of this upcoming prequel come to us via users on the Epic forums, and what they tell us is rather interesting. Supposedly, Gears of War: Judgement, which is being developed by People Can Fly, will take place fifteen years before the original Gears of War with Baird and the rest of Kilo Squad standing trial for transgression against the Coalition of Governments.
The trial is also supposed to be taking place in Halvo Bay, which is the home of the Onyx Guard Academy and has been described as “a modern day San Francisco modified for wartime life”.
As any FPS fan will know, People Can Fly have made their name making solid first person shooter titles such as Bulletstorm and Painkiller, the latest title in the GoW franchise will again be a third person shooter. Apparently the dev is “heavily involved” in making both the singleplayer and multiplayer, although Epic is, of course, going to have a hand in the game’s creation.
There isn’t much info on the singleplayer campaign as of yet, but from what we have heard so far the multiplayer is going to be shaken up a bit. Online matches will now be class based and there is even going to be the addition of a Team Fortress style mode called Overrun. Intruiging.
Locust classes include Wretches, Tickers, Kantus , Grenadiers, Corpsers and more. COG classes include Engineers (who will have the ability to plant sentry turrets and repair fortifications), Soldiers (who will deploy ammo crates), Medics (who come equipped with stim gas grenades) and Scouts (with sniper rifles and the ability to climb some terrain).
More details are expected from Microsoft’s E3 press conference tomorrow.
