Naughty Dog has revealed that The Last of Us will be getting a new campaign difficulty setting for the singleplayer campaign, via a new piece of DLC.
ND made an official statement on the topic, saying,
“There’s more to come. Our final drop in the Season Pass is coming. It is chock full of multiplayer goodness with new maps, new weapons, new skills, and also a brand new difficulty mode for the single player campaign.”
Unfortunately, in true Naughty Dog teasing style, they offerd little else in the way of information, but they did promise “more information on it as in-game elements near completion.”
They haven’t said whether or not ND will be dialling the combat difficulty up or down, but I highly doubt they will adding an easier mode. It seems much more likely that they are adding a much more challenging mode with less resources, harder to kill enemies, and so on. That seems more in the spirit of TLOU, and I would personally love to see a more survival focused mode.
