A couple of rather nice deals here, but nothing fantastic for me on today’s deals for the Steam Summer Sale. Let’s take a look at what’s on offer.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R Bundle (£5.19 – 75% off!)
This is not a game I have personally played, but I know that it is rated very highly amongst gamers and has a nice metacritic score of 80/100 for the latest title. The series is rather notorious for being punishing, so if you’re looking for a challenge this may be worth a look. You get all three games in the bundle, but each of the titles individually is also 75% off if you’re looking to just pick up a single one.
L.A Noire (£6.24 – 75% off!)
The price listed here is for the complete edition, which includes the DLC for the game. If you aren’t interested in that, then you can get just the game for £4.99, which is also 75% off. This Rockstar third person shooter is very highly regarded, despite it’s sticky combat, mostly for the excellently executed setting, characters, story and of course, the face capture software used. It is a very good game despite some problems, so I would say now is the right time to pick it up if you’re interested.
Total War Mega Pack (£8.74 – 75% off!)
The amount of games included in this pack is a little mad. You get almost all of the games in the franchise, minus the recently released Shogun 2 Total War, and the original Shogun. That’s still four games though, plus all the DLC for Empire and Napolean, plus the expansions for Medieval II and Rome.
Super Meat Boy (£2.99 – 75% off!)
I’m sure some of you remember this from my first impressions review over on the channel. This is a truly addictive and punishing platformer, making gamers everywhere rage with frustration but not be able to put down the controller. The controls are tight, the music is excellent and the punishing difficulty almost feels like a throw back to those old school platformers. Pick this up, and prepare for rage.
Indie Bundle VII (£6.99 – 75% off!)
A slightly better bundle this time, with a few interesting titles included. As always with the bundles, it is a very good deal for your money with five games in the pack. Counted among the interesting are Q.U.B.E (first person puzzler), Vessel (puzzle platformer which I covered on the channel) and Dungeons of Dredmor, a punishing Rogue-like RPG. Also included are Zombie Driver and Avadon: The Black Fortress.
Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion (£18.74 – 25% off!)
Crimson did a video on this, and I know he rates it quite highly indeed. I know that he gives this his personal recommendation, and it seems to score quite well with a metacritic score of 84/100. The price may put you off, but this game has not been out all that long so it is not surprising to see it receiving a deep discount.
Age of Empires Online Summer Sale Bundle (£1.74 – 75% off!)
Age of Empires itself is actually a free to play game, so this particular deal is obviously purely DLC. It seems to contain five pieces of DLC, some of which is more storage for your items and some vanity items as well. I would say that if you are into playing AoE Online, then it may just be worth the money to get this, as it is ridiculously cheap.
Carpe Fulgur Collection (£8.06 – 75% off!)
This bundle includes three games, all of which are action RPGS. They all seem to be a little unusual, especially Recettear: An Item Shop’s Tale. As you may think, this sets you as the item shop owners instead of the heroes and sees you going out questing in order to get the items to sell. Recettear is certainly tempting me, but if you’re interested in more than one of the three, I say just get the pack.
Thief Collection (£4.74 – 75% off!)
I doubt any avid PC gamer needs to be told about these game. The Thief games are definitely classics, but I am unsure if many new players will be willing to take the plunge with any other than Thief: Deadly Shadows, the most recent. Even that is very dated graphically, and the older titles have not aged well either. The gameplay on the earlier titles is supposed to be superior though, so if you can stomach the polygons, you may as well get the pack.
