Pieces Interactive, the guys behind the upcoming Magicka 2, discussed in a recent interview what their opinion of DirectX 12 was, as developers.
What they had to say was rather interesting. They echoed the positive comments a lot of devs have made regarding Microsoft’s API, but according to them, the Vulkan API might be even better.
Here’s what they had to say;
“DX12 is a big improvement over DX11, it enables games to move to the next generation of graphics. But we’re also eagerly awaiting the official release of OpenGL Vulkan, which might even be better than DX12. Currently we are only experimenting with the API’s but we will of course support them eventually.”
Vulkan does sound promising, as does DX12. If Vulkan truly is able to go toe to toe with DX12, we could see a surge of support for non-Windows PC gaming.
