As many of you are likely aware, there is a Beta going on for the Xbox 360, testing out a new dashboard. With this update comes a ‘real money’ payment system, which will do away with the MS points which are currently in place.
The update will convert existing MS points into real-world currency, local to whatever region you reside in. The problem is that 1200 MS points won’t buy you what it did previously. For Uk prices for example:
- 1600MSP games are now £14.99; previously this was the equivalent of £13.60
- 1200 MSP games are now £11.99, previously £10.20
- 800 MSP games are now £8.99, an even bigger increase – previously this was £6.80
- 400 MSP games are now £4.49, previously £3.20
Reddit continues this, pointing out rather angrily that this brings the prices up to the same as PSN – but worse, doesn’t warn users about the price hike. Worse, because the update doesn’t WARN you about the conversion, and there hasn’t been mention of it, those who’ve been stocking up on points are surely going to be upset. You could have just had 1200 points left, waiting for a title to be released, got the update, and now not had enough cash to ‘buy’ your purchase.
Oh dear. People are already reaching out to Microsoft for comment.
