Little to nothing is known for certain about the Xbox Series S, otherwise known as Xbox Lockhart. The expected reveal of this little brother to the full-fat Xbox Series X is rumoured to come at the next Xbox event from Microsoft. But, it seems the cat is out of the bag early…
This is thanks to a leak of an Xbox Series S controller from Twitter user Zak S, who posted some photographs of the controller, which does look rather nice. He even went so far as to share a video of the controller to prove that this is genuine. The Verge have also confirmed that this leak is real.

He even provided a comparison of the controller vs the Xbox One controller, and you can clearly see the difference in size and in the D-Pad.

The controller itself looks very promising indeed, and I definitely like the look of the D-Pad. The Xbox One controller had a hugely improved D-Pad over the Xbox 360, and it looks like the Xbox Series X further improves on this as well. We can also spy textured triggers and a new share button. The more interesting thing, however, is if you look at the packaging…
As you can plainly see, the manual mentions that the controller is compatible with both the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S next gen consoles. For those of you wondering where Zak S got this from, apparently he bought it from website OfferUp for $35. It’s important to keep in mind that no official confirmation has happened for Lockhart, or even a white controller, but we have been expected a reveal of Xbox Lockhart from Microsoft for some time now, so this leak solidifies what we already expected.
On the heels of this leak, and the expected event from Microsoft this month, we may finally see not only a reveal of the price and release date for the XSX, but also the XSS as well. Lockhart is expected to be a cheaper, less powerful next gen console that is expected to have around 4 TFLOPS, 7.5GB of usable RAM, and the same CPU specs as on the Xbox Series X.
Pricing is going to be critical here, as neither Sony or Microsoft have even hinted at the price we can expect for the next gen consoles. If Lockhart is competively priced, we could see Microsoft turn the tables on the PS5 after Sony absolutely dominated this generation with the PS4.
