Sony did a ridiculously impressive marketing ploy recently with a new interactive demo that seemed to be a new IP in development named P.T by an unknown studio named 7780s, but instead was a teaser for the new Silent Hill from the Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima and director Guillermo del Toro.
P.T is an interactive demo free to download PS4 demo which was available at the end of Sony’s press conference last night at Gamescom. Sony warned during the event that this horror game was not for the weak hearted and easily frightened…..and I can certainly see what they mean.
I will warn you that some spoilers are ahead, but I highly recommend you to play if you think you can handle it! This will not take away your enjoyment of the game and I will not give away any gameplay/clues.
I spent hours on twitch interacting and watching live streams of individuals pulling out their hair due the convoluted yet intensely disturbing horror. There was no indication or help in what to do when in the game, it was basically a survival puzzle in which you looped through a home and need to find subtle changes in the environment to eventually get you out of the house in which you have no escape.
Basically, you are thrown into a haunting, demonic environment with one of the creepiest starts to a plot I have ever seen…yes, I saw things! You see some disturbing images. The demo has a fascinating allure and a profound atmosphere, which certainly makes you want to cower and not want to turn that next corner. The eerie sounds, voices, screaming and creepy baby screams will just make your hear skip a beat.
One you are thrown into the game, it looks amazing and extremely detailed, which in this case I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing! You are given very few actions you can perform and almost zero help which doesn’t sound fun, but believe me it is! You then use certain, small & hardly noticeable, interactions to progress.
Once you do get to the end, which for the quickest live streams took of around 2-3 hours of looping and panic! You are shown an interactive teaser trailer showing the protagonist, Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro’s names, followed by Silent Hill on screen.
