Watch Dogs – 4 Million Units Sold In 1st Week

WATCH-DOGS

Rather impressively, Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs has sold a staggering 4 million units in it’s first week of sale, leading Ubisoft to call it the best selling new IP at launch across the industry.

GFK Chart Track did make similar comments (as you can see in my video below) so there is definitely some weight to these remarks.

Ubisoft also reported last week that Watch Dogs has sold 1 million units within 24 hours of it’s launch, which means they sold three million more units between then and now. Darren Bowen, the Ubisoft UK sales director, had this to say; “The results we achieved in the first week of launch are amazing and prove Ubisoft’s commitment to developing new blockbuster IP and thoroughly new-gen experiences.”
While Watch Dogs has a while to go to topple Grand Theft Auto 5 from it’s lofty perch, these sales figures are very impressive indeed, especially for a new IP. Even if you are Ubisoft, with millions of dollars of R&D and marketing, there simply is no guarantee that a new IP will take off, which makes this achievement definitely something to be celebrated.
