According to the Japanese newspaper, Asahi Shimbun, the price for the Playstation 4, or Orbis will be around $400.
As mentioned, the local Japanese newspaper has claimed that Sony has initially set the price for the PS4 at around 40, 000 yen, which equals about $430 at current exchange rates. However, there aren’t any official facts to back up this claim, but the price point would not be too far off the Wii U’s current RRP of $349.
However, a $430 launch / release price for the Playstation 4 would mean that Sony would be selling the console at a loss for some time, considering the specs for the console which have been released. Sony does like to have multiple prices/SKU for their console hardware, as with the PS3. It was sold at $499, but also had a $599 version.
So, it could simply be that this price is for the lower end of the margin, but it would still be a loss maker for Sony at the start. And with their earnings finally in the black, I don’t imagine they want too many losses to be happening at the start of the PS4’s life, so I will take this rumor with rather large pinch of salt.
