Crysis 3 will look fantastic assures Crytek
Crysis 3 will rekindle the phrase “will it run Crysis” and developers assure us it will “melt your PC”.
“But can it run Crysis?” was the phrase that back in 2007 became almost a meme. People joked that super computers larger than their living rooms would struggle to play Crytek’s now legendary game. Many PC gamers (with reasonable rigs) would moan that their shiny new PC couldn’t run the game at ultra (a similar complaint was made for the original Far Cry might I add). This of course was the intention, a game that would be incredible, that would inspire awe and would grow as the pc hardware technology also grew. More to the point, it was a shining example of the Cryengine.
Crysis 2 on the other hand was less impressive to PC gamers, while it was very optimized, PC gamers accused the gaming of being far to ‘console friendly’ in the graphics department, indeed in many cases it ran smoother than the original Crysis (although this was partly due to optimizations in the engines coding for Cryengine 2). Despite this, Crytek released an addon which provided far better textures, although PC gamers had to wait for this to be released (causing some PC gamers to boycott the game until it was released).
But, this will not be the case for Crysis 3. I’ll be honest, I am a huge fan of the series, the graphics, the gameplay – everything about it impresses me. But for PC gamers, we’ll be in for a visual treat this time around. Cevat Yerli had this time say:
“There are brutal expectations around the PC version of Crysis 3. So this time we promise to melt down PCs. There is unfortunately always in a multi-platform development that kind of compromise that we have to take, but at the same time we are trying not to take it, so we try to make sure that the PC version looks fantastic, plays fantastic,” he said. “This time we’re saying, ‘Okay, let’s not compromise the PC but let’s try to push the consoles so make the PC version happen.'”
So, get ready to have your PC’s cry ladies and gentlemen.
